The ECOMACO eco-fashion collection is founded on three key words: Ecology, for recyclable fabrics, Healthy, for materials that are good for the skin, and Free, for superb lifestyles.
Behind scenes
Masako Oka, multiple fashion award winner and president of the Oka Masako Design Office, first started creating eco-fashion waves at the Nagano Olympic Games in 1998, where she brought a fusion of fashion and the environment to the international stage. ECOMACO arose from Oka's deep concern about the mass disposal of clothes each season in the fashion industry.
ECOMACO products are created with a focus on eco-friendliness. The company has developed original fibers made from corn starch, soybeans, and kenaf. The plants absorb CO2 while growing and the fabrics are good for the skin. In particular, the company is known for its corn-based, polylactic acid fiber, created with a unique combination of cutting-edge technologies and traditional craftsmanship. They also use a select range of seasonal, natural dyes, which are applied in Kyoto.
