Tanuma Co., Ltd. is a specialized furniture manufacturer, which is rare in modern Tokyo. In 1947, three furniture craftsmen created a workshop on the banks of the Sumidagawa river, among the devastation created by the firebombing of Tokyo in World War II. The company has been in business for 64 years since then, supported by Japan’s economic boom years, and the has created custom-made, specialty furniture for the Prime Minister’s residence, a number of ministers’ studies, and the National Diet building. FUNFAM’s Mr. Fujioka is the grandson of one of these craftsmen and runs his own design company. He is always striving for creating value through innovative design and maximizing the techniques of craftsmen.
